Gordon Biersch Celebrates BooFest with “Pig & Swig Fest!”
Jason Smith, Louisville native and general manager at Gordon Biersch, has big plans for you on October 24th! Taking advantage of the sunny, seventy degree weather this week, I sat down with him on GB’s patio to get the scoop on what surprises he has in store for Bardstown Bound Boo Fest and his own Pig and Swig event.
But first things first; I couldn’t sit in a brewery talking about their beer and not get some myself! The selection at Gordon Biersch includes a few staple, crowd favorite, perfected recipes like their Hefeweizen, Marzen, and Golden Export, with some of brewer Nicholas Landers’ original creations like a Knob Creek barrel aged Baltic Porter and a Citra & Amarillo IPA. Nicholas has the freedom to experiment and brew different styles, so there’s always a new, locally brewed beer on tap.
I chose the just-released “Festbier”, an extremely delicious Oktoberfest style brew with sweet, smooth, toasty, caramel malt flavor, in anticipation of Bardstown Bound Boo Fest. Jason tells me they’ll be bringing both Festbier and their Hefeweizen to the Highland celebration, and having tasted both, I can tell you that their smooth flavor and texture will be perfect beverages for the crisp weather on October 24th.
That same day, Gordon Biersch will be hosting Pig & Swig from 2:00pm-8:00pm, where they’ll take over 4th Street Live with 40+ local and regional breweries, Jim Beam bourbon, BBQ, 4 live bands, and many local vendors, including the new Beer Syrup Company. Beam will have commemorative, personalized glassware for the event, and the whole shindig benefits KGB, or Kentucky Guild of Brewers, a non-profit who aim to unify KY craft brewers for the purpose of educating and promoting craft brewing. In fact, if you use the code”KGB” when you purchase your ticket online, you’ll get $5 off your ticket price. 20% of all ticket sales go to KGB.
Tickets include 20 sampling tokens, souvenir glassware, and (2) food tickets. VIP tickets are available for $70 ($10 off using KGB code) and include access to the Beer Bridge all day with reserve beer and bourbon tastings, GB growler to fill with your favorite GB beer, complimentary food buffet and of course lots of swag! Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse will also be making a commemorative bottle that guests may purchase and fill!
While you wait for the day to arrive, you should stop in and see for yourself what Gordon Biersch has to offer. In addition to the great brews, they also have a large menu with a focus on KY Proud ingredients, and in the spirit of Oktoberfest, they have a limited time menu featuring traditional Oktoberfest fare like brats, sauerkraut, and schnitzel. See you there!
